Barfoed's Solution Recipe

Barfoed's Solution is used for detecting the presence of monosaccharides in a solution. A positive reaction is the formation of red to reddish brown color in the solution. It is primarily used in Botany.

  1. Dissolve 4.5g of cupric acetate in 100ml distilled water
  2. Add 120ul of 50% acetic acid
  3. Filter with 0.2um filter
