Acid Cleaning Solution Recipe

  1. Dissolve 400g of potassium dichromate in in 4L distilled water.
  2. Slowly add 400ml of sulfuric acid.
  3. To use, add to glassware for several minutes and rinse with copious amounts of water.
  • Note: Keeps until solution turns dark brown
  • Caution: Postasium dichromate is toxic by inhalation and ingestion. Sulfuric acid is caustic. Use personal protective equipement, prepare under hood in a well ventilated area. Consult with appropriate safety officials at your institution for proper procedures and disposal.
